Well, because we’ve got a good record is a start. We like to think we know what we are doing. Most of the work, project, programme or whatever you want to call it has come from input from service users, and that’s something we will continue to stick with.
From my own perspective I can relate to many of the people I meet with Clean Slate through my own experiences. It’s often a different version of a similar story, if that makes sense. I’m proud to say some of my best friends are service users (ex and current), bankrupts and others excluded by their vulnerability.
There are some other reasons to choose us too. Like being non-judgmental and fair and legal and all the things you would expect. One reason we like to tell people is that we persevere with you, no matter how much you test our patience. You will never be excluded.
Here’s another one for you. We measure our success on what you tell us, not against some government statistic. If we find a possible benefit we will help you to claim it, and if necessary we will challenge a decision if we think it’s wrong.
Some of the ‘cuts’ we hear about are going to be devastating and will cause much more hardship to those who are least capable of coping with them, At Clean Slate we will challenge those who make those decisions and put forward the reality of the situation, hopefully finding someone who will listen.
In the meantime we need to be ‘smarter’ and again that’s a strength of Clean Slate. Anything to do with money and finance we should be able to help you with and stick with you until you are sorted.
